Festive Campaign FAQs

This is a powerful moment to deepen your impact for women and Nature. Whether you’re a long-time treesister or newly discovering our work, your gift during this week will go twice as far, helping us restore forests, grow community, and inspire Nature connection and advocacy across the globe.

Below, we’ve gathered some FAQs to guide you through the campaign.

What is a match funding campaign?

A match campaign is a fundraising initiative in which a major donor, foundation, or corporate partner pledges to match contributions from the public made within a specific timeframe. This year, our festive match campaign - Gift Hope, Restore Nature - is split into two streams:

For US supporters:

  • Gifts made through Chapel & York and matched to a pledge of $6,700 from a kind supporter.

  • Launching on Thanksgiving Thursday 27th November and ending Tuesday 9th December

For the rest of the world:

  • Gifts made through the Big Give platform and matched to total contributions of £18,750 from pledgers and a champion.

  • Launching on Giving Tuesday 2nd December and ending Tuesday 9th December

What is the Big Give?

The Big Give is a UK-based charity that runs match funding campaigns to help charities raise more money. During these campaigns, donations from the public are matched by larger pledges from philanthropists, foundations, or businesses, effectively doubling the impact of each contribution. The organisation provides charities with match funding, public reach, and digital fundraising training to help them support important causes.

The Big Give Christmas Challenge is the UK’s biggest collaborative fundraising campaign, championing a wide range of charitable organisations. TreeSisters are taking part in this campaign and are grateful to the Reed Foundation for providing match funding.

What is Chapel & York?

We have partnered with Chapel & York US Foundation to accept donations from US-based supporters. This partnership allows us to save on the costs required to operate our own dedicated entity in the US while still providing you the opportunity to support TreeSisters with tax-effective donations. Meaning your gift stretches further, allowing us to accomplish even more.

How is match funding different from monthly donations?

Our incredible network of monthly givers provides vital, ongoing support that sustains TreeSisters' work all year round. These regular donations help us plan ahead, grow our impact, and remain resilient in the face of change.

A match campaign, however, is a special, time-limited campaign:

  • For US supporters launching on Thanksgiving Thursday 27th November and ending Tuesday 9th December.

  • For the rest of the world launching on Giving Tuesday 2nd December and ending Tuesday 9th December.

During this period, any donation you make through the special campaign links will be matched, meaning it will be doubled, making your impact even greater.

Who matches the donations?

Funders, also called Champions, and Pledgers.

A Champion can include high-net-worth individuals, foundations, philanthropists, trusts, statutory bodies, companies and more. A Pledger is anyone in the charity’s network. This may include a trustee, foundation, trust, company, volunteer, high-net-worth individual and others. A mixture of these two types of funders will be matching the donations.

Where will the money go?

Across our festive campaigns, we hope to raise £47,500 allocated as follows:

£33,250 – Forest restoration projects implementation, management and evaluation

£9,500 – Developing learning and engagement materials to support Nature connection

£4,750 – Towards our core running costs, including fundraising, communication and financial management

Are the match funding campaigns only open to UK donors?

No, donations can be completed from anywhere in the world. However, gifts must be made in GBP through the Big Give and in USD through Chapel & York. If you are based in the US and require a tax receipt, please donate through Chapel & York.

Can I get a tax receipt?

If you are based in the US and require a tax receipt, please donate through Chapel & York.

If I already give monthly, will these be matched during the campaign?

For supporters outside the US: Only donations made through the Big Give platform between 12pm (midday) 2nd December and 12pm (midday) 9th December (GMT) will be matched.

For US supporters: Any donations made through Chapel & York between 27th November and 9th December will be matched, including monthly donations.

What payment methods are accepted?

For US supporters - Donations can be made using a debit/credit card or by bank transfer from a US bank account.

For the rest of the world - Donations can be made using a debit/credit card and Apple Pay, and Google Pay. Please note that for international banks, an additional transfer fee may be applicable.

UK supporters can also donate by bank transfer, or through a donor advised fund through the Donation Funds system, although there are some additional administrative requirements - please contact support@treesisters.org as soon as possible if you would like to donate via this route.
