The Divine Feminine
She is a mystery, languid in the shadows, content to purr in her own knowingness. She, the great ocean of life, living, resonant, pregnant with everything yet to come, nudges, strokes and draws us into awareness of our deeper longings. She the rhythms, the cycles, the nubile spring, the fecund summer, the surrendered autumn, thighs open and moist, the warm earth rich and fed. She, the Mother we long for, the pleasure we crave, the safety that beckons, the endless dark that teaches us to let go again and again.

To write about the Divine Feminine from my mind is to try to wrap words around theunknowable yet utterly familiar aliveness at the core of my life. It’s like capturing a fragrance, trying to describe or articulate something that is as mysterious as our own soul, and as intimately known. She is me, she is we, she is all, everything, everywhere, in full flood, in retreat, snowing and flowing and burning, and bleeding. Out there, in here; Home.
I met Romio Shrestha (on the left in the pic), the Dalai Lama’s thangka painter a week or so ago. He is a man utterly in service to the Divine Feminine; searching for her in every woman that he meets. He spoke about his belief that if a thousand women could resonate with her energy, that the Goddess herself could find her way into existence through them. He had created a Thangka, illustrating this thousand Goddesses around the central Goddess. He asked that we look upon her face as our own face, her poise as our own poise, her grace as our own grace. ‘She is the total essence of unspoilt, untainted pure divine feminine energy that resides within each of you’, he said, ‘look upon her as a mirror’...White Tara, Green Tara, Gold Tara...figures of exquisite beauty. As I looked, I could feel that living invitation into the heart of compassion, grace, fire and truth, to live fully unashamed, no longer trying to be acceptable, small enough or less than we are. How do we get there?
How? Together.
TreeSisters is an invitation for women to find within themselves a real response to the predicament of our planet; a call to help reforest and re-robe Mother Earth. But beneath its tree filled exterior, TreeSisters is a call to the Divine Feminine within, a call to sisters everywhere to find each other, to hold the space of sacredness, to fall together through the layers of separation into that fine golden tapestry of heart connectedness where we can rest together. This is a call for us all to recognize that the life that lives us is inseparable from the planet that breathes and feeds us. That the feminine is we and she, that we are nothing without her, that she needs us now, that now is our time to stand up on behalf of her, us, you, me, yours, ours and all of life, if life is to have a chance.
The gift I am living is the journey into allowing, and the emergence of life though me, as if life had said, ‘Your job is to allow, receive, listen and follow’, and I said yes. If our mind is held as a receiver rather than a dictator, then its orientation is to serve the whole being into balance. It becomes a Queen, serving her subjects; heart, body, soul, creativity and purpose are felt, acknowledged and enabled into a wholeness that becomes beauty without effort. When the dictator mind or tyrant King sits upon the throne, we are lost to the onslaught of shoulds and oughts that over-run
our deeper knowings and needs, run us into the ground...a dried out woman, a used up planet. The sad eyes of the negated feminine looking back at us from almost every face, every carved up landscape, and yet she prevails. Deep within, latent, potent, bright and flighty as every bird that sings her song, the Mother is calling us back into the womb of her dark self to find our deepest resource and to emerge as her, whole, complete and unashamed. It’s time now and the Sisterhood is rising.
